Vvlkn Commission update

One more icon to go and I'll be finished with this. I wasn't expecting it to take so effing long, but school got in the way. Should've known better than to take a commission right before classes started.

Vvlkn commission

I'm working on another commission, of a dragon, yet again. This commission consists of a 16x20 inked drawing and four colour icons.

Sketches for the dragon's facial details, and the three icons the commissioner wanted.

I have to make a few changes to the sketch, but this is close to what the buyer is getting for the inked drawing, pose-wise.

One of the icons. I have to change the horns a bit, but it's pretty close to being done. The rest of the icons will follow the same scheme.

Here's my first project for illustration 4: four images based on an album of my choosing. I did "Murder of Crows" by Deadsoul Tribe, a dark progressive concept album about crows carrying the souls of the dead into the afterlife... or something like that. :P

From the top left going counterclockwise: The Messenger, Regret, In A Garden Made of Stones, and Some Things You Can't Return.

Aaaand a little sketchy-thing for a classmate. LOL, DEERZ.

Gouachey Goodness

I'm a traditional illustration major, yet I don't do all that much real media painting nowadays since digital is just so much easier. When I can be bothered to paint, though, I use gouache more often than not. I tend to paint silly things, and the bright, opaque colours lend themselves well to the subject matter.

Most of these were done as school assignments, with the exception of the first and seventh.

WIP: Chinese ships

I did this sketch while school was still in session. The plan was originally to do it as an oil painting, and I may still do that later this fall, but I wanted to try it digitally first. I've done this with a few other pieces, and it always helps me choose my colours better than if I were just starting out with real paint. Saves paint, which is always a plus.

Mune commission detail

I'm finished (at least, until I've heard back from the person who commissioned the piece), so in the meantime, here's a detail of the two characters at full size.

I ended up changing the human's face completely, after coming to the realization that I just couldn't save it. I think the simpler style works better. I'm not terribly happy with the human overall, though- you can tell I need a lot more practice, especially with the proportions. The lasso tool came in really handy on this pic. :)

Still got some way to go, but I think it's coming along well.

First post!

Everyone at my school is doing it, so I decided to hop onto the Blogger Bandwagon. I'm such a lemming.

My name is Abigail, and I'm a senior at Kendall College of Art and Design. My major is traditional illustration, but ironically I do mostly digital art in my free time.
